This is one of those retro-themed dishes that your Mom used to make. Or maybe she still does—I dunno. I've never met your Mom. Anyway, here's a party meatball recipe. It has that crazy sauce that has grape jelly in it. Gross, right? Not until you taste it for yourself. It's delicious. Pair that with my Dad's famous Peanut Butter Ribs, and you've got yourself a feast. Oh wait, I've said too much. That's a recipe for some other time.
Baked Meatballs
Prep Time: 30 min.
Cook Time: 90 min.
Ingredients
- 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 can (5 ounces) evaporated milk
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 12oz. jars Heinz® Chili Sauce
- 1 32oz. jar of grape jelly
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine everything but the chili sauce and grape jelly. Mix well with your hands.
- Form meat mixture into 1 in. diameter balls.
- Line meatballs in an oven-safe baking pan or dish. For leaner meatballs, elevate on an oven rack in a dish so that the fat/grease drips off.
- Bake meatballs for about 90 minutes or until meatballs are no longer pink in the middle.
- To prepare the sauce, mix the jar of grape jelly with the two bottles of chili sauce. You can add the sauce directly to the cooking meatballs, or heat it up separately in a saucepan on low heat.
