MY
DOG
WHAT
IS
THAT
THING
Hot dogs, by their nature, aren't very good for you. They are loaded in sodium, nitrates, and a host of other 'secret' ingredients that humans really shouldn't place in their stomachs. So, in for a penny, in for a pound, right? Might as well throw everything else that's bad for you inside of it. Please welcome the Francheezie with open arms—a cheese-filled hot dog that's wrapped in bacon. Like Dr. Frankenstein's monster before it, it's an abomination of science that really shouldn't exist. But now that it's here, all you can really do is set it on fire and pray for the best.
The Francheezie
Prep Time: 5 min.
Cook Time: 10 min.
Ingredients
- 1 package of hot dogs
- Sliced American cheese (or any soft cheese)
- 1 package of thin-cut bacon
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 onion, diced
- Deli-style green relish
- Mustard
Directions
- Using a sharp knife, cut a slit in a hot dog, lengthwise, halfway into the dog, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- Stuff middle of dog with your favorite cheese, trying not to split the dog into two pieces.
- Wrap dog and cheese with strip of uncooked bacon, completely covering up the cheese, from one end of the dog to the other.
- Insert two toothpicks on either end of the hot dog. They will burn on the grill if you're not careful. If you are grilling multiple francheezies at once, you can thread the entire lot of them on two metal shish-kabob skewers.
- Place hot dog on medium high heat on a barbecue grill, turning frequently, for about 10 minutes, to desired state of doneness.
- Carefully remove toothpicks/skewers, trying not to unwrap the bacon from the hot dog.
- Place hot dog in bun and top with diced onion, tomato, relish, and mustard.
