Introducing the G.H.O.S.T.—the Grilled Ham On Swiss & Tomato. Everyone may know how to make a grilled cheese, but not everyone makes it the same way. The key to making great grilled sandwiches is in the choice of bread and butter. Wonder® white bread just doesn't cut the mustard—the bread falls apart as soon as you try to chisel your hard stick butter straight from the fridge onto it. Choosing a hearty rye bread allows for a more dense slice of bread that holds the butter (and the sandwich) together. Don't be scared to follow these guidelines, and you'll be sure to spook your taste buds into enjoying this sandwich.
G.H.O.S.T. Sandwich
Prep Time: 1 min.
Cook Time: 5 min.
Ingredients
- 4-5 slices deli ham
- 2 slices deli Swiss cheese
- 2-3 slices red tomato
- deli rye bread, thinly sliced
- soft, spreadable butter or margarine
- mustard
Directions
- Spread butter or margarine over outer sides of both slices of rye bread evenly, covering entire surface with a thin layer.
- Spread mustard over one or both inside bread surfaces.
- Add Swiss cheese next to the bread slices. The cheese needs to be right next to the bread when grilling so that it melts.
- Add folded ham slices.
- Finally, place sliced tomato in the middle of the sandwich and assemble.
- In a small or medium skillet, place sandwich over medium heat. The skillet should be hot before you put the sandwich in it.
- Lightly grill on one side for about 2-3 minutes, depending on preferred state of 'doneness' to grill the bread. Flip sandwich and repeat grilling on opposite side for 2-3 minutes.
