THE MIGHTY PEN

Takes place June 16-20, Age recommendation: Teen – Adult

Who needs a sword if you already have a pen? The Mighty Pen is a forum dedicated to the crafted-by-hand arts. As more and more of the youth today are plugged in and online, many are forgetting the art and skill of working with a pen or pencil.

The Mighty Pen is a 5-day summer workshop for students and educators alike that teaches proper pen techniques, from basic handwriting & calligraphy, all the way to digital tablet input. Students will begin with the history of the writing then continue on to topics such as elements of typography, drawing, illustration, painting, watercolor, and advanced lessons in Photoshop, Illustrator, and 3D manipulation and input.

SHIELDS UP!

Takes place June 27, All ages welcome

SHIELDS UP! was first introduced in 1980 in Chicago, IL as a local movement in artistic solidarity— in 2005 Shield the Arts folded this time-honored event into their organization to become a night to come together and celebrate the people, the messages, and the attitudes that drive Shield the Arts forward.

Join us on June 27 as we celebrate local artists through a dinner, exhibit, and benefit that directly impacts all involved. This is an all-ages event so bring the whole family and see how art impacts your local community and support the efforts of Shield the Arts.
