The Reality of Surrealism

What is real? Does something have to make sense to be real? Is reality just a collection of ideas and concepts that are agreed upon by public opinion, or do we all have the power to create our own realities? These are just some of the thoughts, concepts and ideas that surround the surreal art movement.

Surrealism first started in the mid-twentieth century, and one of its champions was Salvador Dalí, a Spanish-born painter and sculptor that brought surrealism to the mainstream. Through his own view of the world around him, he created new landscapes filled with dreamlike alternate universes, constantly challenging his audience to interpret the symbolism and reference that he so deftly displayed (and hid) in his hundreds of works of art. You will find information about the man, his art, and his life, as well as where you can visit museums dedicated to him throught the globe.
